Istanbul is the only global metropolis located across two continents . Europe and Asia are separated by the Straits of Bosphorus , which connects the Sea of Marmara and the Black Sea . There are two large hanging bridge (and a third under construction) that connect the European side and the Asian side of Istanbul , but also vapurs (ferries in Turkish) that make the round trip all day .
In the collective imagination of the Asian side of Istanbul is considered, wrongly, as more " Eastern "than its European Sister. What is really striking in Istanbul and in our view constitutes its chief beauty is the coexistence of diverse and varied populations. In a very short time you switch from a conservative district as Uskudar district as a modern Moda .
The tour guides classics usually completely obscure this part of town so we decided to do a quick summary of what you can find.
1 jour: Kadıköy, Moda Caddesi ET BAGDAD
Kadikoy is the heart of Asia, is the Anatolian Taksim . In ancient Kadikoy was called Chalcedon and according to legend it was called the city of the blind as Herodotus would have said that Chalcedonians who had built their city 17 years before Byzantium were probably blind for choosing the location of the city in a situation so little strategic away from detroit.
Although very dense it is very pleasant to stroll through the narrow streets of the center of this bustling neighborhood. You will find a different atmosphere from that of Beyoglu or Sulthanahmet. One of the main "attraction" is the Kadikoy market . This is one of the largest in the city. This is a good opportunity to see Turkish products, do not hesitate to ask to taste before buying !! All Tuesdays, Hasırcıbaşı Caddesi Kadikoy
Next to the pier Kadıköy, you can take a ride in a balloon that pupil 200 meters above the ground. You can have a spectacular view of the entire European side. The tours are every 15 minutes for 15 tl per person (about 6 euros).
To discover the area you can also take the historic tram that runs from Kadikoy to Moda .
For lovers of shopping that is Bagdat Caddesi (the Avenue of Baghdad ) you need to go. Considered the Champs-Élysées Istanbul , this avenue 6 kilometers long home to shopping centers, boutiques , cafes and international restaurants chains. Ruffed youth of the Asian side of Istanbul makes an appointment on weekends to hang out, have a drink or go shopping.
A very nice walk to do to escape from the city center is that of the seaside Caddebostan . This walk along the Sea of Marmara, you even find a few small beaches. After this walk you can go for a drink at the brewery couch marina Kalamis.
