From mid-June until the middle of October and the summer heat settling permanently in Istanbul . In summer in Istanbul the hottest months are July and August when the temperature can reach 35 degrees.
It is a time of year when Istanbul is quieter. The Istanbulites typically spend their holidays in their hometowns or in the many resorts in Turkey. The city is empty of its people, it's really a time that I like because with the decline in traffic it is very easy to get around in Istanbul and enjoy the shores of the Bosphorus, the Black Sea or the Marmara to breathe in and out of the heat of the city.
The summer period is part of the high season of tourism in Istanbul. Museums and monuments remain open later than during the winter.
Here you will find a list of things to do especially in the summer, but also during the hottest days.
What to do in the summer in Istanbul?
- Rent a boat
What better way to enjoy a hot day than boating. This day will allow you to travel in small coves for swimming and restaurants accessible by boat. You can also rent a boat at night to party on board or even dock in the nightclubs of the Bosphorus.

- A day sailing
Want to get away? relax on the Sea of Marmara? Discover the Princes' Islands? then this business is for you.Throughout the day you can bathe in the creeks before going to a restaurant on one of the islands of the archipelago. For the more energetic we can arrange a half day during which you will assist the captain in his maneuvers.
- Eating mezze and drinking raki
The fishing season starts in September, summer is the best season to eat fish. To refresh, nothing better than a good meal with lots of cold mezes and raki after a day of sightseeing. The raki is the national alcohol is an anise liquor that is similar to Pastis. Anecdotally, the founder of the Turkish Republic, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk , was very fond. It even happened to do with his advisors and close " sofrasi raki ", they struggled drinking raki. It is very common to drink in the fish restaurants . It's called making a raki balik (balik means fish in French).
- Go to the beach or pool
Istanbul is bordered by the Black Sea and the Sea of Marmara. Particularly along the Black Sea you will find many sandy beaches.
In the city there are also many pools. Entry is more expensive than the beaches but they have the advantage of being mostly in the heart of Istanbul.
- Getting to the islands princes
Princes Islands are very nice to escape the heat of Istanbul. We advise you to go there in the summer on weekdays rather than weekends because they are under attack by Istanbulites and tourists. You will also find on the islands of small beaches (without sand unfortunately) that will allow you to relax and swim in the sea of Marmara.
- Enjoy a day in the forest of Belgrade.
It is the largest forest in Istanbul, besides a nice walk you will find many activities such as hiking horseback riding, paintballing or quad biking.
- Partying outdoors.
In addition to the big clubs Bosphorus who open their doors, many festivals are held throughout the city. You can find them in our section concerts and exhibitions
During the summer our favorite place to party on the weekend is the range of Suma Beach , venue of appliances evenings often with DJs Big renamed.
